March Madness and The Chocolate Easter Bunny

HAPPY EASTER

The Easter Bunny prediction for March Madness

Louisville

will win!

If Duke defeats Louisville,

then Duke will win the whole thing!

BUT THEN THERE ARE THESE GUYS!!!!

Everyone is rooting for the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles in this year’s March Madness NCAA Basketball Tournament.  They defeated Georgetown in their first-ever NCAA tournament game and then went on to destry San Diego State.  They are the first-ever No. 15 seed to win two games in the tournament and advance to the Sweet 16 Round.

So far, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles

are certainly this year’s Cinderella Story

cinderella Team march madness Florida Eagles

To me the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles are best described by this quote:

“The secret is to have eight great players and four others who will cheer like crazy.” ~ Jerry Tarkanian

Great Inspirational Act of Sportsmanship

Should have a Kleenex handy for this.

With so many awful stories in the news these days,

I just love stories like this.

I JUST LOVE THIS

Amazing act of sportsmanship gets Mitchell Marcus his basket.

Mitchell Marcus gets his basket.

Mitchell Marcus is team manager for the basketball team at Coronado High School in El Paso, Texas. He doesn’t play for the team because of his disabilities, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s Coach Peter Morales’ favorite on the team or his love for the game.

In one of the final games of the season, Coach Morales decided to let Mitchell suit up and play in the last few minutes, hoping that Mitchell would score a basket, with no care at all whether they won or lost. Unfortunately, with his team members passing him the ball every time, it didn’t look like the game was going to go in Mitchell’s favor until, with only a little bit of time left, opposing team member Jonathon Montanez of Franklin High School did something amazing. He called out Mitchell’s name and threw him the ball, letting him score the final basket, despite Montanez’s team losing by 15 points.

“I was raised to treat others how you want to be treated,” Montanez told CBS News. ”I just though Mitchell deserved his chance, deserved his opportunity.”

Jonathon Montanez, basketball sportsmanship

Besides the players and the coach, there is another hero in this story!

Someone should thank the ref for not calling travelling on the inbound pass.

Metta World Peace Not So Peaceful!

Name Fail

NBA player, Metta World Peace’s first name means

“Loving and Kindness”

His name should be ~ Metta World Moron

He hurt James Harden, his fans, his team and his reputation!

The media and internet are filled with outrage over the vicious elbow

Metta World Peace swung at Oklahoma City’s James Harden

in an NBA basketball game.

And there’s no question that Metta World Peace will forever be mocked about changing his name from Ron Artest.

NBA ALLSTAR ELBOW!

From Twitter:

From tennis star Andy Roddick (@andyroddick): “I think metta world peace should change his name to holy flying elbow.”

@phabriss: “After that little elbowing incident Sunday, I think Ron Artest’s name should be Metta World War, not Metta World Peace.”

@PatMcAfeeShow: “Metta world peace got a bit Ron Artesty didn’t he.”

@JCLayfield: “Shouldn’t Ron Artest become Metta World Moron after last night’s flagrant foul? World Peace just doesn’t seem right.”

@awfulannouncing: “How could Metta World Peace have a crazy Ron Artest relapse on Earth Day of all days? Cmon man.”

World Peace seems to think that he did nothing wrong at all, one of his tweets defending his action reads: “I just watched the replay again….. Oooo.. My celebration of the dunk really was too much… Didn’t even see James ….. Omg… Looks bad”.

***

Strange Case of Dr Artest and Mr. Peace

(Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde)

Ron Artest has a history of violence, but World Peace has been rehabilitated and has behaved fairly well.

Which player will David Stern punish?

METTA WORLD PEACE ~ SHATTERED IMAGE!

Two questions to be answered:

1. How long should his suspension be?

2. What will his new name be?

VCU and Shaka Smart

March 2012

Shaka Smart may be the Number One choice for the Coaching position at The University of Illinois.

Illinois fired Bruce Weber on Friday.

Shaka has done an incredible job during the last two seasons. He deserves a shot in the Big Time in the Big Ten!

NCAA Basketball Upset

VCU earns a birth in the March Madness ~ NCAA Tournament

VCU Upsets Drexel ~ winners of 19 straight Games

Drexel had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer but VCU held on, 59-56, to win the CAA Championship.

Can VCU And Shaka Smart repeat the incredible March Madness Run of 2011?

Re-Cap of March Madness 2011

and

VCU’s Incredible Performance

VCU loses to Butler

“If you want to talk about quality of shots, we had, I would say, six or eight layups that we missed,” Smart said. “So I would say that wasn’t the difference. Butler has an experienced team. They know how to win. They’re not going to beat themselves. We knew that coming into the game. We just made a few too many mistakes.”

Good run, though!

Shaka Smart and the Giant Killers

VCU ~  “ No sacrificial Rams.”

Great Story in the NCAA March Madness

Lots of Fun to watch!

Shaka’s Got ‘Em Believing (VCU Final Four Song)

ESPN’s Dick Vitale said before the tournament “Look at Colorado’s résumé, look at UAB and look at VCU,  it’d be an M&Mer — a mismatch, man. It would be like a beauty contest — Roseanne Barr walking in versus Scarlett Johansson. No shot, none whatsoever.”

Virginia Commonwealth University

VCU is situated in the heart of Richmond, the capital of Virginia since 1779

Shaka Smart, the 33-year old who’s got Virginia Commonwealth in the Final Four, is suddenly the hottest coaching commodity in NCAA men’s basketball as the Rams prepare to take on Butler in Houston.

Shaka Smart Quotes

(Shaka Smart developed a love for quotations at Kenyon College. Smart began writing down quotes into a digital document that is now over 110 pages long.)

Smart, who quoted Major League after beating Kansas, said quotes are his biggest hobby.

He said his favorite quote is from his wife:

“Appreciation is the currency of success.”

“We have a point-nine-percent chance. It’s kind of like that movie Dumb and Dumber: ‘So, you’re saying we’ve got a chance?’ ”

We’ve played our best basketball when it matters most … That’s why I’m sitting up here with a net around my neck.

His wife also said (about Shaka wearing the basketball net after the game), “It’s like the lamp shade of basketball.”

Smart talked about some of the advantages he has being only 33. ”I have a lot of energy,” Smart said. “I have the ability to relate to our guys. It wasn’t too long ago I was in college.”

On style of play~ Smart described his “havoc” defensive philosophy during his introductory press conference as, “We are going to wreak havoc on our opponent’s psyche and their plan of attack.”

About his Name: “It’s about the best thing my dad ever did for me,” Smart said. “Because I was raised primarily by my mom. Shaka is an African name, named after a king in southern Africa who united hundreds of thousands of people. He was a warrior, he was a tough dude, and my dad chose to name me after him. You may have seen the movie ‘Shaka Zulu.’ That’s who I’m named after.”

Speaking a day after No. 11 seed VCU upset top-seeded Kansas in the Elite Eight, school athletics director Norwood Teague said he has every intention of keeping Smart in Richmond.

“We’re gonna’ keep him,” Teague said. “We just have to be proactive about it.”

Who is Shaka Smart

After graduating high school, Smart attended Kenyon College, a liberal arts school in Ohio. As a member of the Kenyon College basketball team, he was an all-conference selection as a senior and is the school’s career assists leader (542). Smart was named a member of the 1999 USA TODAY All-USA Academic Team. ~wikipedia

Smart earns a $325,000 base salary and he could earn in excess of $500,000 this season.

Smart may be a candidate for several vacancies at power conference schools, where some coaches earn in excess of $2 million.

“In a competition famous for its upsets, the Rams having made it to Houston may be the most unlikely occurrence in the history of the tournament,” says Nate Silver at The New York Times, who listed the Rams as an 820-1 underdog to make the Final Four going into tournament play.

The Rams beat five teams from five different “power” conferences — the Pac 10, Big East, Big 10, ACC, and Big 12 — a feat no underdog has managed in the history of the tournament.

“One of my sisters showed me something where it said Kansas now has a 44 percent chance of winning the national championship,” Smart, 33, announced Saturday, a day before Kansas had zero percent chance of winning a national championship. “We have a point-nine-percent chance. It’s kind of like that movie Dumb and Dumber: ‘So, you’re saying we’ve got a chance?’ ”

SINKING WINNING BASKET AGAINST RAPTORS!

Notice how excited the Toronto Raptor Crowd is?

Tuesday February 14 ~ Valentine’s Day (great gift for basketball fans)

Against the Raptors, infront of a sold out crowd, Lin, ball in his hands, game on the line, counted down the seconds before drains a game-winning three-pointer with 0.5 seconds left.  Knicks sixth straight win since Linsanity began.

“I just wanted to make sure I got a good shot at the end of the clock,” he said on the television broadcast afterwards. “Jose Calderon backed up a half a step and I thought that was a good look for me.”

Lin created interest in Toronto on a weeknight in February.

If not for Linsanity, I would not have watched the game!

Jeremy Lin Quotes:

I was only 5-3. Luckily I grew. Maybe I was meant to be a basketball player.

“I have a job again, yesss!’

“Coach D’Antoni is an absolute offensive genius,” said Lin, whose 38 points represented half his season total from 29 games last year for Golden State. “He makes us look good.”

“I don’t think anyone, including myself, saw this coming,” Lin told The Times.

“My whole thing as I try to live my life is have fun, explore your opportunities, your dreams, find something you’re passionate about, and then just go after it,” Lin said. “And I think that’s true for kids whether they play basketball, or they want to do whatever they want to do. So, hopefully, I can be an inspiration to them.”

  • “If you love sports, you have to love what Jeremy Lin is doing. Getting an opportunity and exploding.” ~ Steve Nash

  • “I was like, ‘Wow, he had 25 in one game and everybody was going crazy.’ New York media, you know? And then it happened two more times and I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s good. It’s good.’ … Looking from the outside in, everybody’s pretty happy for him. It’s good to see something special for the first time.” ~  Metta World Peace — Ron Artest

  • “I know who he is, but I don’t really know what’s going on too much with him.” ~ Kobe Bryant

  • So rare, so improbable. Everyone stayed inside the Garden, listened to Lin’s on-court interview over the Garden sound system. M-V-P, they chanted. M-V-P.People stayed in seats, screaming, yelling, snapping photos. Out there, all alone, those gangly arms, that baby face…well, Lin hardly looks the part. That’s the beauty of him, of this story. That nothing is how it’s supposed to be, how we’ve ever witnessed a star burst onto the scene. ~ Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo

  • I didn’t know he could dunk,” teammate Tyson Chandler told The Times. “When he’s going in for it, I go: ‘No, Jeremy! Just lay the ball up.’ And all of a sudden he dunks it.”
