BUTTERFLIES INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES AND BEAUTIFUL PICTURES

What the caterpillar calls the end of the world,

the master calls a butterfly.  ~Richard Bach

But these are flowers that fly and all but sing:
And now from having ridden out desire
They lie closed over in the wind and cling
Where wheels have freshly sliced the April mire.

GREAT SNOWMAN PICTURES AND POEMS

The Snowman

One day we built a snowman,
We built him out of snow;
You should have seen how fine he was,
All white from top to toe.

We poured some water over him,
To freeze his legs and ears;
And when we went indoors to bed,
We thought he’d last for years.

But, in the night a warmer kind
Of wind began to blow;
And Jack Frost cried and ran away,
And with him went the snow.

When we went out next morning
To bid our friend “Good Day”,
There wasn’t any snowman there…
He’d melted right away!

Little Snowman

(to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little snowman round and fat,
Here are my mittens,
Here is my hat.
Add a little scarf and a carrot nose.
You stand so tall when the cold wind blows.

How to Talk to Your Snowman
Use words that are pleasing
like freezing
and snow.

Iceberg and igloo
and blizzard
and blow.

Try Arctic, Antarctica
Say: shiver
and shake

but whatever you
never say,
Never say: bake.

A Chubby Snowman

A chubby little snowman
Had a carrot for a nose.

Along came a bunny
And what do you suppose?

That funny little bunny
Was looking for his lunch.

So he ate the snowman’s nose,
Nibble, nibble crunch!

ONCE THERE WAS A SNOWMAN
author unknown

Once there was a snowman,
Who stood outside the door,
He wished that he could come inside,
And run about the floor.
He wished that he could warm himself,
Beside the fire, so red,
He wished that he could climb
Upon the big white bed.

So he called to the North Wind,
“Come and help me, pray,
For I’m completely frozen,
Standing here all day.”
So the North Wind came along,
And blew him in the door,
And now there nothing left,
But a puddle on the floor!

Building Mr. Snowman

Head ball,
Belly ball,
Bottom ball-
Done!
Building Mr. Snowman
is always
lots of fun!

FIVE LITTLE SNOWMEN
Five little snowmen On a winter’s day

The first one said, “Wake up, so we can play!”

The second one said, “Let’s stomp on the ground.”

The third one said, “Let’s roll around.”

The fourth one said, “Let’s run and run and run.”

The fifth one said, “I’m afraid I feel the sun.”

“Oh dear,” cried the snowmen, As they looked toward the sky.

And the five melting snowmen Waved a fond good-bye.

Halloween Poems for Children

COME OUT

COME OUT

THE WITCHES ARE OUT!

Halloween Poems for Kids-pumpkins

Helter-Skelter Play

by Joel Benton

Pixie, kobold, elf, and sprite,
All are on their rounds tonight;
In the wan moon’s silver ray,
Thrives their helter-skelter play.

Flutter, Flutter Little Bat by Leanne Guenther

Flutter, flutter little bat,
How I wonder where you’re at.

Swooping through the darkest night -
You find your way without a light.

Flutter, flutter little bat,
How I wonder where you’re at!

Halloween Poems for Kids

A Magic Chant by Samuel Exler (1992 – 2008)

If in the dark you’re frightened,
Here’s all you have to do.

Say: Igga bigga,

Hunka bunka,

Dinka danka doo.

These words give you protection

From ghosts-and witches, too.

Say: Igga bigga,

Hunka bunka,

Dinka danka doo.

So if at night a monster

Should whisper, I’ll get you,”

Yell: Igga bigga,

Hunka bunka,

Dinka danka doo.

Fraidie Cat

by Clinton Scollard

I shan’t tell you what’s his name:
When we want to play a game,
Always thinks that he’ll be hurt,
Soil his jacket in the dirt,
Tear his trousers, spoil his hat,–
Fraidie-Cat! Fraidie-Cat!

Nothing of the boy in him!
“Dasn’t” try to learn to swim;
Says a cow’ll hook; if she
Looks at him he’ll climb a tree;
“Scart” to death at bee or bat,–
Fraidie-Cat! Fraidie-Cat!

Claims there’re ghosts all snowy white
Wandering around at night
In the attic; wouldn’t go
There for anything, I know;
B’lieve he’d run if you said “Scat!”
Fraidie-Cat! Fraidie-Cat!

Only Naughty Children See Spooks on Halloween by Winifred Sackvile Stoner, Jr.

Witches and goblins, spooks and elves,
With sprites and gnomes from elf-land delves,
Tonight are flying here and there,
Yes, up and down and everywhere.
For this one night in all the year
They rule the earth and bring great fear
To all the naughty little boys
Who tease good girls and break their toys.

These spooks they also make girls sad
When they are selfish, cross and bad;
So when it’s dark, bad boys and maids,
They see these awful fearsome shades,
And that is why with covered heads,
They trembling lie in their warm beds.

But even there they goblins see,
Spooks and gnomes, and all that be
Abroad upon weird Halloween
When all the wizards may be seen
By naughty kids and grown-up folks
Who like to play most wicked jokes.

But good young girls and gentle boys,
The kids who are their mothers’ joys
They like the dark just as the light,
For spooks never come within their sight,
And in their dreams they lovely elves
Show them bright scenes from fairy delves.

So, if tonight you are afraid
Of any spook or any shade,
We’ll know you are a naughty child,
So cross and willful, rude and wild.

Halloween Poems for Kids

Jack-o-Lantern Author Unknown

Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern,
You are such a funny sight.
As you sit there by the window,
Looking out into the night.
You were once a sturdy pumpkin,
growing on a curly vine.
Now you are a Jack-o-lantern,
See your night lights shine.

Easter Egg Hunting

Finding a Treat

Hippity hop, hippity hop,
Will the Easter Bunny stop?
Will he leave a treat behind
An Easter basket for me to find?

I’ll look over here, I’ll look over there,
I’ll look behind things, I’ll look everywhere.
I’ll look until I find my treat,
And then I’ll sit right down and eat.

Secret Easter Egg Hunting Information

Would you like to know a secret?
Well, I’ll tell you one I know:
The Easter’s Bunny’s coming,
My mama told me so.

He’ll bring a basket filled with eggs
And leave it in my yard,
And I will find it Easter morn,
If I look very hard.

I shouldn’t tell my secret,
But I think it should be shared.
You ought to know that Bunny’s coming,So you can be prepared!

Another twist for your Easter egg hunt is to use bunny footprints to give the children clues where to look for the eggs.

Memorable Easter Egg Hunt Story

Special Easter egg hunt.  Try sprinkling talc on the wooden floor, then using the bunny footprints, they created a trail in the talcum powder.

Place carrots at strategic points, but also gnaw them to look like the rabbits had been there.  One neat touch is to leave a spilt saucer of milk in the kitchen.

Hop, Hop, Hop

Hop, hop, hop,
Hop my bunny hop,
Hop along my little bunny
You look sweet and very funny
On this Easter day.

Look and see,
Where the eggs may be,
Here is on and here’s another,
Here’s a lovely one for mother.
Let us look and see,
Where the eggs may be.

St. Patrick’s Day Verses, Poems, Toasts and Blessings

***

Irish Sayings

Leprechauns, castles, good luck and laughter.
Lullabies, dreams and love ever after.
A thousand welcomes when anyone comes…
That’s the Irish for You!

Irish Toasts

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, may good luck pursue you each morning and night.

May the roof above us never fall in, and may we friends gathered below never fall out.

A trout in the pot is better than a salmon in the sea.

As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point in the wrong direction.

A friend’s eye is a good mirror.

May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.

He who loses money, loses much; He who loses a friend, loses more; He who loses faith, loses all.

May the Lord keep you in His hand and never close His fist too tight.

May your neighbors respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and heaven accept you.

May the sound of happy music, and the lilt of Irish laughter, fill your heart with gladness, that stays forever after.

May the hinges of our friendship never grow rusty. And our ale never turn musty.

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time — a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.

“Maybe it’s bred in the bone, but the sound of pipes is a little bit of heaven to some of us.” ~ Nancy O’Keefe

“There is no language like the Irish for soothing and quieting.” ~ John Millington Synge

When Irish eyes are smiling

    When Irish eyes are smiling
Sure it’s like a morning spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter,
You can hear the angels sing.
    When Irish hearts are happy,
All the world seems bright and gay.
And when Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, they steal your heart away.

Irish Blessings

May you live to be a hundred years,
With one extra year to repent.

**

May the road rise up to meet you,
may the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and the rain fall soft upon your fields,
    and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
    **

May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks,
May your heart be as light as a song,
May each day bring you bright, happy hours,
That stay with you all the year long.
      **
May the Irish hills caress you.
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May the luck of the Irish enfold you.
May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
      **

May you have: A world of wishes at your command. God and his angels close to hand. Friends and family their love to impart, and Irish blessings deep in your heart!

May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door.

May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, and may good luck pursue you each morning and night.

May your blessings outnumber the Shamrocks that grow, and may trouble avoid you wherever you go.

    Honest work to occupy you.
A hearty appetite to sustain you.
A good woman to love you.
And a wink from the God above.
    **

May you live a long life, full of gladness and health. With a pocket full of gold, as the least of your wealth.

May the dreams you hold dearest, be those which come true. The kindness you spread, keep returning to you.

May the friendships you make, be those which endure; and all of your grey clouds, be small ones for sure.

And trusting in Him, to Whom we all pray; May a song fill your heart, every step of the way.

Ode to the Shamrock

There’s a dear little plant that grows in our isle,
    ‘Twas St. Patrick himself, sure, that sets it;
And the sun of his labor with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the mireland,
And they call it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

International Women’s Day

March 8th is the 103nd Anniversary of International Women’s Day

Google marks the International Women’s Day with a bright, semi-diaphanous “Doodle.” On Google’s search homepage, the overlapping-letter logo has the universal female symbol stand in for the ”G”; the second “O” has sprouted a marigold-yellow flower; and the usually blue characters are now tinted purple. Both the violet shades and the female Venus symbol visually echo the Women’s Day logo itself.

Not to be confused with

International Very Good Looking Damn Smart Woman’s Day

March 8th is International Very Good Looking Damn Smart Woman’s Day, so please send this message to someone you think fits this description. Please do not send it back to me as I have already received it from a Very Good Looking Damn Smart Woman.

WOMEN ARE UNIQUE

She can deal with stress and carry heavy burdens.

She smiles when she feels like screaming, and she sings when she feels like crying.

She cries when she’s happy and laughs when she’s afraid. Her love is unconditional.

There’s only one thing wrong with her. She forgets what she’s worth!

Pass this to every woman you know. Remind her that she’s unique.

L-o-v-e Y-o-u!!

Enjoy the simple things.
 Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.

And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,

spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

Famous Quotes for Women’s Day!

“The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world.” ~ Charles Malik

“If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” ~ Margaret Thatcher

William Congreve, English Playwright
Heaven hath no rage like a love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a woman scorned.

Rudyard Kipling, Author
A woman’s guess is much more accurate than a man’s certainty.

Jules Michelet, French Historian
Woman is a miracle of divine contradictions.

Freya Stark, Author
The great and almost only comfort about being a woman is that one can always pretend to be more stupid than one is and no one is surprised.

Gloria Steinem, American Feminist
Someone once asked me why women don’t gamble as much as men do and I gave the commonsensical reply that we don’t have as much money. That was a true but incomplete answer. In fact, women’s total instinct for gambling is satisfied by marriage.

In honor of International Women’s Day, Google created the following logo last year. Nice!

International Women’s Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on March 8 every year.

It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements. – source wikipedia

Inspirational Poems for Women

Imagine a Woman

Patricia Lynn Reilly

Imagine a woman who believes it is right and good she is a woman.
A woman who honors her experience and tells her stories.
Who refuses to carry the sins of others within her body and life.

Imagine a woman who trusts and respects herself.
A woman who listens to her needs and desires.
Who meets them with tenderness and grace.

Imagine a woman who acknowledges the past’s influence on the present.
A woman who has walked through her past.
Who has healed into the present.

Imagine a woman who authors her own life.
A woman who exerts, initiates, and moves on her own behalf.
Who refuses to surrender except to her truest self and wisest voice.

Imagine a woman who names her own gods.
A woman who imagines the divine in her image and likeness.
Who designs a personal spirituality to inform her daily life.

Imagine a woman in love with her own body.
A woman who believes her body is enough, just as it is.
Who celebrates its rhythms and cycles as an exquisite resource.

Imagine a woman who honors the body of the Goddess in her changing body.
A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her years and her wisdom.
Who refuses to use her life-energy disguising the changes in her body and life.

Imagine a woman who values the women in her life.
A woman who sits in circles of women.
Who is reminded of the truth about herself when she forgets.

Imagine yourself as this woman.

Mind is the master power that molds and makes,
And we are Mind, and evermore we take
The tool of thought, and shaping what we will,
Bring forth a thousand joys, a thousand ills,
We think in secret, and it comes to pass -
Our world is but our looking glass.
– James Allen

Beautiful woman,
come out and play,
reveal your inner treasures.

The sparkle in your eyes,
the natural swing in your walk,
you radiate excitement and enthusiasm.

You need no latest fashion,
No expensive hair cuts,
No blinding big accessories.

You glow in your passions,
passionate in your pursuits,
you know what you are made of.

You are not easily bothered,
by the mindless opinions of others,
you know very well where you want to go.

you are a joy to watch,
an inspiration to others,
your pure soul an endless marvel.

Beautiful woman,
let your brilliance shine through,
your eyes speak of true inner beauty.

Year of the Dragon Poems and Songs

“When the dragons grow too mighty To slay with pen or sword I grow weary of the battle And the storm I walk toward When all around is madness And there’s no safe port in view I long to turn my path homeward To stop a while with you. When life becomes as barren And as cold as winter skies There’s a beacon in the darkness In a distant pair of eyes In vain to search for honor In vain to search for truth But these things can still be given Your love has shown me proof.” —Rush

A Poem about the Dragon

I am an unquenchable fire,

The center of all energy,

The stout heroic heart.

I am truth and light,

I hold power and glory in my sway.

My presence Disperses dark clouds.

I have been chosen To tame the Fates.

I AM THE DRAGON.

-From The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes
-By Theodora Lau

Puff The Magic Dragon

The lyrics for “Puff, the Magic Dragon” were based on a 1959 poem by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow

and made popular by Yarrow’s group Peter, Paul and Mary in a 1963 recording.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie paper loved that rascal puff,
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff. oh

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee.

The song is about the “loss of innocence in children.” The lyrics tell a story of the ageless dragon Puff and his playmate Jackie Paper, a little boy who grows up and loses interest in the imaginary adventures of childhood and leaves Puff alone and depressed.

Dragon’s Call
by Author Unknown

It echos through the past,
Binding the owner’s will- fast.

Crying out in mournful wails,

It signals death of an age.

Fight the power- fight the Mage,

he who enslaves- fight the Mage.

Towards freedom it sails,

above the sky, through time

Unending, un ceasing-forever,

crying out long forgotten sorrows.

Or bringing forth the battle, let it-

Go forth through time,

And sail the winds of eternity.

Chinese Dragon
As the sun came up, a ball of red
I followed my friend wherever he led.
He thought his fast horses would leave me behind,
But I rode a dragon as swift as the wind!

The JabberwockyBy Lewis Carroll

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwocky, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought-
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwocky, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Happy December

***********
“From December to March, there are for many of us three gardens -
the garden outdoors,
the garden of pots and bowls in the house,
and the garden of the mind’s eye.”
-   Katherine S. White

“All the leaves are brown
And the sky is grey
I went for a walk
On a winter’s day
I’d be safe and warm
If I was in L.A.
California dreamin’
On such a winter’s day.”
-  Mammas and Pappas, California Dreamin

“On the first day of winter,
the earth awakens to the cold touch of itself.
Snow knows no other recourse except
this falling, this sudden letting go
over the small gnomed bushes, all the emptying trees.
Snow puts beauty back into the withered and malnourished,
into the death-wish of nature and the deliberate way
winter insists on nothing less than deference.
waiting all its life, snow says, “Let me cover you.”

-   Laura Lush, The First Day of Winter

“So now is come our joyful feast,
Let every man be jolly;
Each room with ivy leaves is dressed,
And every post with holly.
Though some churls at our mirth repine,
Round your foreheads garlands twine,
Drown sorrow in a cup of wine,
And let us all be merry.

Now all our neighbors’ chimneys smoke,
And Christmas blocks are burning;
Their ovens they with baked meats choke,
And all their spits are turning.
Without the door let sorrow lie,
And if for cold it hap to die,
We’ll bury it in a Christmas pie,
And evermore be merry.”
-   George Wither, A Christmas Tale

Happy Thanksgiving – Poems for our US Friends

Happy Thanksgiving

May your Thanksgiving be blessed with
The bounty of the Season
Love of Friends and Family
And a Harvest of Smiles…

Thanksgiving Time

When all the leaves are off the boughs,

And nuts and apples gathered in,

And cornstalks waiting for the cows,

And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,

Then Mother says, “My children dear,

The fields are brown, and autumn flies;

Thanksgiving Day is very near,

And we must make thanksgiving pies!”

~~Author Unknown.~~

How to observe Thanksgiving.

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;

Count your gains instead of your losses.

Count your joys instead of your woes;

Count your friends instead of your foes.

Count your smiles instead of your tears;

Count your courage instead of your fears.

Count your full years instead of your lean;

Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.

Count your health instead of your wealth;

Count on God instead of yourself.

~~Author Unknown.~~

Thanksgiving

The year has turned its circle,

The seasons come and go.

The harvest all is gathered in

And chilly north winds blow.

Orchards have shared their treasures,

The fields, their yellow grain,

So open wide the doorway —

Thanksgiving comes again!

~~Old Rhyme.~~

Remembering the horrors of Black November…

When I was a young turkey, new to the coop,
My big brother Mike took me out on the stoop;
Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow,
And he told me there was something that I had to know.
His look and his tone I will always remember,
When he told me of the horrors of ‘Black November’…

“Come about August, now listen to me,
Each day you’ll get six meals instead of just three,
And soon you’ll be thick, where once you were thin,
And you’ll grow a big rubbery thing under your chin.

And then one morning, when you’re warm in your bed,
In’ll burst the farmer’s wife, and hack off your head;
Then she’ll pluck out all your feathers so you’re bald ‘n pink,
And scoop out all your insides and leave ya lyin’ in the sink.”

Well, the rest of his words were too grim to repeat,
I sat on the stoop like a winged piece of meat;
And decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked,
I’d have to lay low and remain overlooked.

I began a new diet of nuts and granola,
High-roughage salads, juice and diet cola;
And as they ate pastries, chocolates and grapes,
I stayed in my room doing Jane Fonda tapes;

I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half,
And tried not to notice when the bigger birds laughed;
But ’twas I who was laughing, under my breath,
As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death;

And sure enough when Black November rolled around,
I was the last turkey left in the entire compound;
So now I’m a pet in the farmer’s wife’s lap;
I haven’t a worry, so I eat and I nap.

She held me today, while sewing and humming,
And smiled at me and said, “Christmas is coming!”
