When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States.

BUT…

This year it might be called

 Black Thursday!

 Some stores, like Target, will open at 9 p.m.

on Thanksgiving this year, in an effort to get a

head start on the biggest shopping day of the year.

Credit buying is much like being drunk.  The buzz happens immediately and gives you a lift….

Black Friday Blackouts

I was browsing in a souvenir shop when the man next to me struck up a conversation. Just as he was telling me that his wife was getting carried away with her Black Friday shopping, a brief power shortage caused the lights to flicker overhead. ‘That,’ he sighed, ‘must be her checking out now.’

It’s funny how during Thanksgiving we’re thankful for what we already have, but then we practically trample each other for stuff we don’t have on Black Friday.

Happy Easter Bunny

With Easter arriving soon, a little information about an important part of the tradition:

The Easter Bunny

The Easter Bunny (or Easter Hare) is a mythical character seen as an anthropomorphic rabbit. It is believed that Easter bunny brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy and toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter. According to the tradition, Easter eggs are hidden by the Easter bunny. Easter bunny is an Easter symbol which derives its origin from Alsace and southwestern Germany, where it was mentioned in German writings in the 1600s. The first edible Easter Bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s from pastry and sugar. Foil wrapped beautiful chocolate Easter bunny is the most important aspect regarding Easter day as it is very similar in trait to its Christmas counterpart Santa Claus as both of them bring gifts for good children on the night before their respective holiday.

 Someone born on leap day may be called a leapling. They usually celebrate their birthdays on Feb. 28 or March 1 in common years.

If you were born on February 29, I hope you enjoy this strange and amazing day that comes only once every four years. For the rest of the time you do not “exist.”

How can you determine a leap year?

If the year is evenly divisible by four, add a day to February – unless you can divide the year evenly by 100, then no leap day, unless the year is evenly divisible by 400, then you add a leap day.

What if you were born on the LEAP SECOND?

In the “modern” world, international time is determined by the vibrations of atoms in incredibly accurate atomic clocks, rather than by Earth’s rotation. This has added another kind of leap to the time-keeping lexicon: the leap second.

Keepers of atomic clocks periodically add or subtract one or two seconds a year to keep the clocks synced with a 24-hour day as measured by Earth’s rotation – which on average is gradually slowing. The first leap seconds were added in June and December 1972.

The next leap second – the 25th since 1972 – is slated for this coming June.
